Meet Our Working Students

Gianna is one of our working students and has been a part of the Applewood Farms family since she was six years old when she attended a birthday party here and caught the "horsey bug." Now at 17, her passion for horses has only grown. She plays a vital role at Applewood as a summer camp lead and administrator of our Applewood AllStars youth group, where she mentors young riders and organizes monthly meetings. Always eager to learn, Gianna has spent the past two years apprenticing as a farrier, working alongside local professionals to master the craft of trimming and shoeing horses. She also shines as a dedicated member of our Applewood Show Team. Gianna’s love for horses, teaching, and learning continues to evolve, making her an invaluable part of our team

Lexie has been a cherished member of the Applewood Farms family since she was seven years old. Hardworking and always eager to learn, she has grown into a dedicated working student, playing a key role in leading our summer day camps, special events, and the Applewood Farms youth group. Lexie thrives on new challenges, whether working with young horses or honing her skills. As a valued competitor on our Applewood Farms Show Team, she has spent the past two years focusing on equitation, earning a coveted spot at the National Equitation Good Hands Finals. When she’s not at the farm, Lexie enjoys volunteering, riding, and golfing.

Neela has been riding with Applewood since she was 10. She volunteers helping with farm chores, getting horses ready and as a camp counselor. She is dependable and hardworking always willing to mentor the young riders. She is a member of our Academy show team. She also helps with the Applewood Farm AllStars youth camp. Neela is an instrumental part of the Applewood Farm family.

Before joining Applewood Farms, Alyssa trained with the renowned Ms. Dawn Atlas, a legend in the Saddlebred world. Now a proud member of the Applewood Show Team, she remains deeply connected to the barn, even when work commitments prevent her from showing. Whether cheering on her teammates or helping pack up after horse shows, Alyssa’s support is invaluable—every trainer knows how much those small acts of kindness mean. She also volunteers her time by feeding the horses on Sundays and bringing them in, giving our team a well-deserved break to enjoy more family time. Known as the master bun maker at shows, Alyssa is always ready to lend a hand and mentor younger riders. Her love for Saddlebreds shines through in everything she does, making her an irreplaceable part of the Applewood family.

Sophia is a dedicated member of the Applewood Farms working student team. She volunteers her time assisting with riding lessons and loves mentoring young, up-and-coming riders. As one of our summer horse camp leads, she focuses on programming and helps train young horses while preparing show horses for competition. A proud member of the Applewood Show Team, Sophia is always striving to build strong connections with the horses she rides in the show ring. Her commitment to safety and keeping the barn organized makes her an invaluable part of our team.

Currently away at college for the winter, we eagerly await Sophia’s return each summer. She truly embodies the Applewood family spirit—going the extra mile (literally!) to support her teammates, including traveling to cheer Lexie on at Nationals. Hurry home soon.

Avery has been riding at Applewood Farms since she was little. Once quiet and reserved, she has grown into a confident leader, playing a vital role in our Applewood Summer Horse Camps as our educational instructor. She keeps campers engaged while teaching them about horse breeds, safety, health, and husbandry.

Avery shares a special bond with her favorite horse, Mocha—one that’s definitely mutual! While she enjoys riding and showing Mocha, she truly shines as our Show Team’s grooming extraordinaire. From braiding to bathing, she ensures our riders and horses enter the show arena looking their best. When she’s not at a show, Avery spends countless hours at the barn, helping with chores and keeping things running smoothly.

Now away at college, we can’t wait for her return for horse show season—Mocha misses her, and so do we! Avery is an invaluable part of the Applewood family.
