Q: How old does my child have to be to participate in horseback riding lessons?
A: As young as three years old, children at Applewood Farm, LLC can enjoy interacting and riding horses. Depending on their attention span, lessons may go shorter or longer on any given day, but we always strive to make it a positive experience! Typically, children 7-16 years old are a part of our riding program.

Q: Do I need any special equipment for taking lessons?
A: We ask that you always wear pants (jeans), hard soled shoes/boots, and equally as important, a riding helmet that is SEI approved. Applewood does have helmets available for your first lesson, however, we ask that a helmet is purchased if serious about continuing riding lessons.
Riding helmets can be purchased for $30.00 - $50.00 at any of the following locations. Please ask us if you have questions and please visit our helpful links for more information.

Q: Do you participate in competitions / horse shows?
A: At Applewood, we participate in competitions that suit our rider's skill and interest level. We commonly partake in local open shows, A & B circuit shows, as well as academy horse shows. There are plenty of opportunities to show if you would like, however, there is no pressure to show. We are a pleasure and show barn, meaning half of our students show, and half choose not to.
Additionally, we usually host a schooling show once a year for students who would like to experience competitions.

A: Sorry, we do not offer trail rides. Although, our advanced riders have the opportunity for trailing riding if they share board on a horse.
